marleyisms 2021...

Marley: “I love the filter they used to film Full House. It makes it look so old fashioned!”

Marley: “I love fish sticks even though they aren’t fish!"
Me: “Well what are they then?”
Marley: “Bits of chicken wrapped in mash potatoes...duh!”

Me: “Marley on a scale of 1-10 what do you rate me as a mom?”
Marley: “Eh, 1 higher than 3.”

Marley to Adam: “Are we on the same page here?!”

Marley and I are sitting in the couch watch TV...
Marley: “Will you please get me some milk?”
Me: “No you can go get it. There’s a cup of milk already in the fridge.”
Marley: “Why won’t you go get it?!”
Me: “Because it’s Mother’s Day. You go get it.”
Marley: “Look, I’ve already appreciated you today. Can’t you appreciate me and just go get it?!”

Marley: “Mom please don’t wear those sunglasses! You’ll embarrass me even in front of strangers!”

Marley: “Wow, spaghetti again? I feel like that’s all we eat.”
Me: “Geez thanks mom for making dinner!”
Marley: “I mean thanks for at least feeding me.”

Marley: “Mom when you wear makeup you look 20.”
**side note-I’m not wearing makeup today.
Me: “So what are you saying about how I look today?”
Marley: “Like you didn’t even try.”

Marley gifted me this beautiful bouquet she put together.

Me: “This is the best gift ever!”
Marley: “Good, then I’ll regift it to you next year.”

surgery day...

Marley never ceases to amaze me and her strength and courage is something to be looked up to for sure.  We have been monitoring a cyst on Marley's knee for a little over a year now and it started growing earlier in the fall.  After clearing up a really bad infection in the cyst in December we ended up having surgery this past Monday to remove it.  We are so very fortunate to have wonderful insurance that allowed us to have the surgery at a pediatric hospital in Austin.  Marley was so strong and although we could tell she was nervous she never once voiced it.  She bravely took her pre-op COVID test a few days before and was luckily negative so we headed out early, early Monday morning for Austin.  The staff was AMAZING and so great explaining everything to Marley and keeping her calm.  The surgery took about 45 minutes and they ended up having to clean out more than expected.  She has internal and external stitches that will have to come out in about 2 weeks.  As she was waking up from anesthesia Adam and I got to be with her and she tried to tell us that the doctor never came in and did the surgery and that when they were making her breath the "gas" to put her to sleep they kept asking her questions, but her "lips quit working" so she had to just give them a thumbs up!  Haha!  Gotta love that girl's sense of humor!  Fortunately the surgery was just a day surgery and after she got moving we got to come home.  She has done great and been so very brave with the pain, cleaning and rebandaging several times a day.

Man I'm so proud to be her mom!

This past weekend we were so lucky to witness one of our very best friends and the greatest guy marry his sweet love Liza!  Adam was a groomsman and Marley was a junior bridesmaid.  The wedding was at a beautiful venue in Athens, Texas and although it was perhaps the coldest, windiest day ever, the wedding was absolutely beautiful!

Congrats Liza and Cody!

christmas 2021...

 Christmas 2021...

I absolutely love Christmas time, and Christmas through the eyes of a child is on a whole new level.  I love that Marley still fully buys into all things Santa and the whole Christmas spirit.

We started off the Christmas celebrations with a trip to the Polar Express in Palestine, Texas with Grammy Carol, Pawpaw and Marley's bestie Addie.  The joy in their eyes was priceless!

We also enjoyed a night at Magnolia with yummy treats, "snow" and fireworks!

Marley also had her first school Christmas program.  We are so glad that Gran was able to come down to see it with us too!

Marley also had her first guitar Christmas concert.  She do wonderfully and was the youngest one there!

Adam was gone again this year on Christmas, but no fear, Santa always does a favor for us and comes early.  On our "Christmas Eve", the 19th, our neighborhood put together a Christmas Stroll with neighbors passing out hot cocoa, treats and just enjoying the cooler weather while strolling around the neighborhood looking at all the lights.  It was absolutely joyful! We celebrated "Santa" this year on the 20th with our little family of 3.  Marley had asked for an electric scooter and Santa came through with a teal (her favorite color) scooter and even put her name on it!  She of course got her annual "Santa Chips" and this year he brought TWO bags!

Christmas Eve Eve is always our time with Grandma and Grandpa Nix and Aunt Alex, Uncle Robert, Madrid, Margie and Moxie.  This year we hosted at our house and enjoyed lunch together, decorating cookies and playing.  We LOVE our cousins and time with them!

Marley and I then attending Christmas Eve service and this year the whole family, Grammy and Pops, and Uncle Randall, Aunt Lauren, Ranger and Brice even joined us.  It was absolutely magical with even snow falling in the middle of the service!

Christmas morning Marley and I went to Grammy and Pops and opened presents and enjoyed more time playing with Ranger and Brice.

Then when Adam got home we went to East Texas to celebrate more time with the Cain family. We not only celebrated Christmas with everyone, but we got to ring in the New Year with fireworks and fun as well!
